Jessiya's Complain Corner: Because E3 Opened Old Wounds

W-What the fuck is this? Where's my stupid sexy Dante?

Okay, so, I realize that this is a reboot (or is it an origin story? Make up your mind Capcom!). But where does it say that a reboot has to take everything about a character and completely destroy it? Let's be honest. Who is going to look at that guy and say, "Oh yeah that's Dante."

I'm sure the grim dark emo look might be popular with some people, but since when was Dante a grim dark sort of person? In pretty much every game (except for the 2nd game, but who cares, that one doesn't exist) Dante has been a flamboyant guy running around in flashy clothing. The shit that guy is wearing, is neither flamboyant nor flashy.

I really want to give the reboot a fair unbiased chance, but goddamn the people working on this game are making it hard for me. Just read this:

Tameem Antoniade (in charge of design) and his thoughts on old Dante: “It’s about Dante being cool and making you feel cool when you’re playing it, and so the combat and the style system and everything is integral to that. If Dante, dressed as he was, walked into any bar outside of Tokyo, he’d get laughed out,”

Once again, this is what new Dante looks like:

Oh yeah, this guy sure is Mr. Cool.

Sorry Ninja Theory, but throwing a cig in the kid's mouth and bathing him in instant grim dark does not give the game a mature tone. That was one of the good things about Dante. He wasn't some grim dark anti-hero, he was cool and laid back. That humorous side of him was what made playing him cool. Now all signs point to grim dark, but I seriously hope that they at least add some humor to this "cool" and "mature" game that they want so badly.

Oh, and why in the name of Shiva is he now a smoker? Smoking is not cool. Unless it's a cigar and you're a middle-aged man named Naked Snake or James Bond.

And don't get me started on the British Flag on the sleeve of his jacket. Have we suddenly gone back into the 90s when having a flag emblem on your clothing was cool?

As of now, DmC is not a first day buy for me. Now if at some point new!Dante stops looking like a guy in need of a sandwich, a bath, and a hug, maybe I'll reconsider, but for now, it's a no-go for me.
